The images of the people in ”Document” are based on mug shots of people who were living in Russia during the period of Stalinist repression. These paintings depict the physical condition of people in the last days and sometimes hours of their lives. The broad range of nationalities, social groups and different ages shows the true scale and extent of persecution under the Stalinist regime at the time. Continue reading
