We Are Birmingham team up with Bullring for a very exciting public art project

We’ve been working very closely with the team at Bullring recently on an art project, which will give four local artists the chance to have their work exhibited on a very large scale at the UK’s most visited shopping centre.

The St Martin’s Square area is currently undergoing a transformation with the creation of a new dining quarter at the centre. The Spiceal Street development will welcome three new restaurants to Bullring with a design concept that promises to complement the existing architecture in the area.

We have teamed up with Bullring following their request for local artists to help create artwork for the hoardings, which will stand around the development site during the nine-month build.

We are very pleased to announce that some of We Are Birmingham’s favourite artists have been selected to provide work for this exciting project.

The hoardings will be displaying work by Tom Tebby, Carl Booth, our very own Matt Murtagh and lastly, but no means leastly, James Thomson.

Work has already begun on the artwork and one of the artists, James Thomson, requires help from the local community.

James’ original concept needs words to create the design so he’s on the lookout for people’s thoughts about the Spiceal Street development and what makes their perfect dining experience.

If you would like your words included in James piece you can get involved at

Just fill in the box at the bottom of the page and you will be away……

I’m sure you will agree that this project is exactly the kind of forward thinking and engaging art the city of Birmingham needs. I know I can speak for all at We Are Birmingham when I say that we are very excited to be part of something that so many people are going to get to see, and hopefully love.

Watch this space for more details as things start to happen, and keep your eye out for the artists installing their work over the coming weeks.

Fabulous news. Just cos the shop was there people came looking when they wanted artists. As it should be. Well done!
And what a relief that we’re all about to get some pretty hoardings round a city centre building site for once. Hurray.

  2. Great news! Pity West Bromwich hasn’t taken this approach to the miles and miles of hoarding it has around it’s centre. I gave up asking the Council and The Public what I needed to do to get them painted, guts me as a graffiti and mural artist to see the space go to waste.

If you need any help just ask! or have any advice on how to approach West Bromwich on a similar project?
